I love the X-Files. I love it in spite of the fact that some episodes are just not very good. In X-Files season 11, the episode “Rm9sbG93ZXJz” is the worst X-Files episode I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen them all.
What’s the premise of “Rm9sbG93ZXJz”?
It’s basically, hundreds of robots harass Fox Mulder and Dana Scully because Mulder didn’t leave a tip on a meal at a diner run by robots. At one point in the episode, Scully was kind of being stalked by a rental car company like Uber, but it’s called Whips.
The show ends with the robots cornering Mulder and Scully. It appears that the robots are going to kill them both unless Mulder leaves the diner a tip with an app on his phone. Even though it pains him to leave the tip, he hits 10% on his phone and saves their lives.
What happened to the Whips car rental car that was bugging Scully about positive feedback? That just sort of disappeared from the show.
And we’re to believe that this is what robots are going to spend their time doing? Flying around by the hundreds, harassing people who don’t leave them a tip? The robots eventually reaching the point where they’re going to kill someone over not leaving the robots a 10% tip?
The entire episode was just so farcical that it was beyond silly and reached stupid.
There was essentially no dialogue. It was just Mulder and Scully running away from robots. It’s a good episode for Mystery Science Theater 3000 one day.
