Christine O’Donnell won the Senatorial Republican nomination on September 14, 2010. She beat out Republican Mike Castle and Republicans were shocked while the Tea Partiers jumped for joy – they were going to “take America back.”
But for the Republican Tea Partiers, that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.
A new poll by the University of Delaware released today has O’Donnell trailing Democrat Chris Coons by 19 points. Another poll by Fairleigh-Dickinson University shows Coons at 53 percent and O’Donnell at 36 percent.
I’ve been laughing at the Tea Party since it started in 2009 with a bunch of nimrods whining about having to pay taxes and then complaining that the government was going to regulate the health insurance industry – how dare they!
Tea Party Republicans are fringers. The way primaries work, is that these radical libertarians such as Rand Paul and anti-masturbation witches like O’Donnell can win the GOP nomination. As anyone who’s had even a passing interest in politics will tell you, these people are largely unelectable in a general.
Even if Paul wins in Kentucky, which it appears he will, he’s going to be as effective as his predecessor Jim Bunning who filibustered unemployment benefits while whining about missing a college basketball game. He was a kook. Paul is a kook. Kentucky will continue its tradition of being governed by nutcases.
But when it comes to Delaware, that’s not going to fly. The people in Delaware want to elect someone who doesn’t think evolution is a myth or that scientists are creating mice with fully functioning human brains.
And to prove how afraid O’Donnell is of the voters in Delaware, she doesn’t interact with them. She’s shunned the local press and her Web site has no public events scheduled. Her plan is to take the millions of dollars funneling into her campaign coffers by millionaires who don’t live in Delaware and buy lots of ads like this one.
