Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann (TP-R) has dropped her bid to be the next Republican Conference leader – the number 4 position in the House.
Bachmann said that the GOP’s preferred candidate had “demonstrated his commitment to limited government, reduced spending and lower taxes, and he will be a strong voice for the Tea Party’s call for these values.”
Yes that’s nice, but no one besides Bachmann actually thought she had a snowball’s chance in hell of actually getting the job. The GOP leadership, including future majority leader John Boehner (R-OH), want Representative Jeb Hensarling of Texas to be the next Republican House Conference chair.
After she dropped out, Hensarling said in a statement that Bachmann’s “effective voice played an important role in America’s decision to trust House Republicans once again.”
Yeah … uh … no it didn’t.
